Rare Carbon is a smoky, spiced leather, one of the best-loved budget Tom Ford Ombré Leather alternatives (with a Tuscan Leather edge and a violet-rose twist of its own). Rugged leather, violet leaf, nutmeg and cinnamon open bold and a touch spicy, a heart of violet, oud, rose and cedar adds a floral-woody sweetness that lifts it out of the "leather swamp," and a base of vetiver, sandalwood and amber makes the drydown warm and refined. Dark, masculine and date-night-worthy, a leather scent with more colour than most. Masculine; best autumn through spring, with above-average longevity. Note: opinions on the Ombré Leather likeness split (some call it 90%+, others say it leans its own way); it benefits from a couple of months' oxidation, and recent batches reportedly run a little weaker.
